one week until my English exam...

...and I'm still in hospital. and I'm just riding, semi-depressed, on a blue note. since I came back from Finland my "photographs" have been only hopeless words. all my thoughts are many miles away. back to North.

I apologize for being so damn away lately. I am still preparing for the most important exam of my life (two weeks from now).

I enclose here the poster of the latest show I just had in my city last month.

I won´t give you too many details about the exhibition for the time being, but a few hints. It was a three people show and the main idea was to create three intimate spaces inside the gallery. My photo-installation was named after Carson McCullers´ novel, The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter, and here are some of the photographs exhibited.

The major fear I have is totally related to the photographs I should take now, over 10 months of break. It´s just hard to start over.. but, as Taavetti wrote me in an e-mail last night, “You have to make decision to stop posting daily favorite vids to Facebook but instead start posting daily pics to your blog!!!”

That’s why I woke up and stoped thinking that I can not do what I want. I am a conqueror, what the hell?!

There are some thoughts/ideas that always come into my mind. Many of them I have first heard from my favorite romanian writer. While I was standing on the beach, reading a wonderful book ( I will talk to you about it quite soon), I suddenly remembered some words written by Octavian Paler. I can not reproduce them exactly but the main idea is simple. You should not compare yourself with things that others can do, but what you can do best. I admit that after I came back from Finland I did not do so much photos as I hoped to, but I did many other important things and that is the best excuse I can have. Every single thing has its own time and I am trully happy to say that this is the day when I start to work as hard as I can to make my dreams happen, because all the other goals I had for this year I have already achieved.
I am quite ashamed to admit that I am afraid to share you my first photos after almost a year of break.. but, dammed it! Crap or not, this is my work and I understood that it is not efficient to exaggerate criticising yourself. I am breaking the censorship I unconsciously imposed myself and I will let my passion to get the better of me because this is who I trully am after all.

Now I am sure - all that I want from my life is to be a light that illuminates the things that surrounds me in the way I feel.

New day, new dawn

As one of the most common quotes says Every end is a new beginning, I am trying to adapt these words to my own experiences. Three years ago I became a student in History and Theory of Art in only a few days. I didn’t ever think that someday I would graduate a University ..of Arts! Romania still is, for me, the country of all the possibilities. I doubt you would believe me if I told you that a secretary had a big influence on my life :) but it is true! Her name is Irina and she’s secretary at my university. I went one day to ask what I would need to become a student in Art History… so that I could have prepared myself for one year…. And her response was Yeah, yeah, you will study so hard so that the next year you’ll become our student. Go home and bring your papers! I’m here till 12 o’clock! This is the last day when you can apply. In a couple of days you’ll have an interview. You need only 5 articles about your favourite artworks and an essay! And… few days later I was in front of five teachers speaking about..Van Gogh and other few artists.. Of course I didn’t say too much.. I had only two days for reading some stuff, but I was lucky.

Many things have happened since then .. including my final exams. Since I took up photography as a hobby exactly three years ago, which is pure coincidence, I’ve decided to make some changes in my life. First of them is to start speaking and writing about my work in English so that everyone can understand what’s in my mind regarding my photographs. That’s why I stop thinking that every single mistake I do in English truly matters. Now I feel that is more important to break the silence than to hide myself.

Secondly, in order to improve my photographic and artistic skills and experience, last night I felt like I must start a new photo-project. And here come the good news for the people who are still reading this wordy post. Today I started a three-levels project. First level assignment implies shooting everyday during the next 30 days. I do not promise I will post daily but the exif will confirm my sayings if anyone is so god dammed curious. :)

The human being starts by being an anarchic system of hopes and ends becoming an organised system of memories – my favourite Romanian writer, Octavian Paler, said. In order to have as many memories and less regrets as possible, I’ve decided to show the way I feel life in photographic captures. Before encapsulating moments that will soon become memories, I must live all the colours of life – with highlights and shadows.. and show you the most expressive and powerful ones. Because I found my peace in this creative field I am proud to say that I enjoy living, taking and sharing pictures!

After I wrote all this it seems like it is not difficult for me to write in English but to find and develop my own photographic language. :) We’ll keep in touch!
